biography

Food and Environmental Economist

I am originally from Saitama, Japan. Before entering university, I played soccer in Uruguay, which was a formative experience that broadened my perspective. I earned a B.S. degree in Economics with a focus on International Economics from Toyo University. I later pursued graduate studies at Kansas State University (KSU), where I obtained both my M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Agricultural Economics. Throughout both degrees, my research focused on soybean trade and market power. In addition, I earned a Graduate Certificate in Applied Statistics from KSU, further strengthening my analytical and empirical research skills.

     After completing my Ph.D. in 2012, I worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Sophia University, where I participated in the Ministry of the Environment’s S-10 project. I then served as an assistant professor at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology before joining Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) in 2019.

     My research interests lie in consumer economics, food and sustainable energy, socioeconomic analysis, and issues related to the Fukushima disaster. Outside of academia, I enjoy watching sports and spending time playing with my kids.
